can you spot the ‘thumb’ and the ‘pinky’ ?

So ……. here is the latest watercolor and ink work – not overly complicated but lots of fun and very colorful.  Inspired by the incipit cold / hot / cold / freezing weather – there is actually a pretty big collection of these now.  You would have thought that “birds” would have been the first, given my commitment to myself to finish a collection, but you can guess that the need for color invaded the plans.

They are going to Whimsical Women in Chapel Hill in May – so either I see you there and you can pick one up or for those of you who live far, far away – the US Mail can bring one to you.

Lots of love – and happy weekend – Ann

beablankredflower

I’ve been teaching myself to digitize my artwork. This is a combination of my hand lettering and an abstract Watercolor flower.  I decided that it might be fun to create a new way to share artwork…. so….

Introducing a new art game – kinda like Cards Against Humanity except you pick the answers from your life instead of a pile of cards (and you decide whether or not it’s humane…)

To play, simply put your choice of fill in the blanks in the comment section or print the piece, add your words and share (#whimsyvillefun) or post on Whimsyville’s Facebook  Page under today’s post (Jan. 24, 2016) . Best original answer wins a ‘digital’ version to print out …. tell me what you are thinking, good or bad….

Have a great week – Love, Ann

callasbyhirschfeld

– a review of Amouage Opus IX

Whether by accident or (infernal) design, I grew up in an opera-mad household. Family Christmas traditions included (among other things) at least one viewing of Milos Foreman’s Amadeus (because Wolfgang was the household god) and if my mother the histrionically addicted opera buff could get tickets for it, an Xmas ticket to another Christmas tradition at the Royal Theatre of Copenhagen – a performance of Carl Nielsen’s Maskarade. One year, the ticket gods conspired to send Maman, her mother and both her daughters to see ‘Maskarade’, and my sister laughed as the orchestra struck up the overture and my giddy anticipation was painted all over my face.

Since I’m also the only one of my family to play a musical instrument (classical flute, violin and viola) and I did not run away screaming for my first live opera…

The Scented Hound

chypre-21WHAT I SMELL: Chypre 21 opens with a lovely rosemary tinged bergamot that feels clean and zesty.  The rosemary note adds a wonderfully different herbal twist to the opening of the perfume and is a lovely surprise.  Quickly, a saffron note joins in along with a bitter sour neroli.  The perfume is dry and rather woody, but quickly the perfume then moves to a light rose and patchouli.  As it develops the perfume is still dry, but has moved to a more pretty demeanor which is tinged with florals.  As the perfume continues to develop, the projection deepens and becomes more rounded but powdery.  After around the 30 minute mark, the perfume arrives at it prettiest point; it’s soft, powdery and dry, floral and completely comforting.

From the Heeley Parfums website:

An ode to Parisian chic

As from the early 20th century onwards, the chypre accord has undoubtedly been regarded as the…
